Leverie screamed and thrashed, reaching
her hand toward Ciara as blue flames engulfed her. Ciara wanted to move, but
she couldn’t. Her sister kept screaming her name to save her. She wanted to,
but something was holding her back. A hand gripped on her leg, dragging her to
the ground, where Ciara could see Virgo’s face pulling her close.
I want
you and your memories. You are the Candidate! I know of it! Virgo chuckled.
Ciara screamed and
thrashed, until she could feel hands grabbing her shoulders. The gravity was
pulling her in—into the darkness—into the world of flames.
“CIARA!”
Ciara’s eyes snapped
open. At first, she thought she was still inside her dream, but when she
noticed the light flooding in her vision, she realized she was already awake.
And then there’s someone on top of her, blocking the light. A body. A
figure. Her heart throbbed in her chest, while the air grew warm, turning
everything hot.
“Liam…” Ciara
breathed heavily.
“Don’t give me a
heart attack, you know,” Liam shouted, panic in his tone, “I thought something
happened to you. I thought you were…dying.”
It took a matter of
seconds to realize Liam was on top of her. She could see both of his arms
pinning her on the bed, and since there weren't any spare clothes last night,
Ciara slept in Liam’s undershirt. Ciara closed her eyes, “I just had a bad
dream…”
“Me too,” Liam
sighed, and Ciara felt his left hand touching her cheek, brushing her bangs off
her eyes, “Sometimes I can't sleep. Sometimes I dream about the people
I…killed…” Liam clenched his teeth, “I see them all...and they just can't stop
to bug me.” Liam breathed heavily, “You know the reason why I picked a double
bed?”
Ciara shook her
head.
“It’s because I want
to get closer to you,” she saw Liam’s head bending down to kiss her, “You made
me feel better. You make all my worries disappear in a split second.” Then
their lips touched, “Every time you’re gone by my side, I always search for
your face, for your hands, and your lips.” Liam paused, “But I shouldn’t
deserve this life. I’m a monster, a freak and—”
The door quickly
slammed open, and Ciara could hear four footsteps entering. Rein guards? Ciara
cranked her head to look at the door, but Liam’s body was blocking her vision. If
those were Rein guards, I should be able to hear the sound of their guns…Ciara
observed. But no…all I can hear is the skimming of heavy cloth and the
tapping of heels. Majestics?
Ciara’s heart
pounded, and Liam still wouldn't move. Why is not Liam attacking? And
then something came up in her mind. If there were enemies here, Liam would
be already up. Ciara thought. So if they’re not enemies, then that
means…
“What in the world
are you two doing!?” Macie shouted.
“Liam!”
Chase chimed in.
Since they were
distracted by their conversation earlier, the two lovers didn’t realized how
ridiculous they looked right now.
“Hey, don’t get the
wrong idea, you know.” Liam began, and Ciara noticed him slowly retreating from
the bed. ‘We were just talking.’
“Just talking?”
Macie shouted, “Just talking! You look like you’re going to molest Ciara in her
sle—”
But in a swift
second, Ciara saw someone giving Liam a straight punch in the face, knocking
him on the other side of the bed. Crack. Liam crashed very loudly on the
ground, yelling and groaning in pain. The figure had short messy dark hair,
wearing a dark coat up to his knees. Chase.
Ciara’s eyes
widened. Chase punched Liam!? Ciara couldn’t believe it. This was the
first time she saw Chase attacking Liam. His own brother.
“Ciara, are you
alright!?” Macie was on her side, yelling frantically. Ciara blinked back,
confused. What just happened? Ciara thought. Did Chase really punched
Liam?
Macie repeated, “Did
Liam do something bad to you!? Did he hurt you!” Macie shouted, “I knew it! I
knew you were up to something, Liam," Macie angrily stomped her foot on
the ground, "I should have stayed with Ciara last nig—”
“Shut up, Macie!” Liam growled. Ciara felt a
surge of panic when she heard anger in his tone. He’s getting mad. Liam
hissed. “Chase, what did you do that for!?” Liam staggered back, and Ciara saw
him wiping his chin from where Chase smacked him. Chase is really angry at
him. Ciara observed. I can hear Chase panting heavily, and a low growl
coming from his throat.
She almost forgotten
that Chase kissed her. And thinking about that memory made her blush.
“I can’t believe you
just punched me like that!” Liam yelled, “What’s wrong with you!?”
“Obviously, Chase is
mad at you, Liam!” Macie answered, “What do you think our reaction will be
seeing you in that position!? You were doing something bad to Ciara behind our
ba—”
“Macie,” Chase
snapped, and Ciara saw him grabbing Macie’s shoulders, dragging her to the
side, “I’ll handle this with my brother. Just wait outside for a minute, okay?”
“No!” Macie snapped,
“First, your brother tries to hurt my friend, and now you’re throwing me
outside?”
“You better listen
to him,” Liam staggered angrily, and Ciara could hear him hissing, and
squeezing his face to control his anger. Liam is getting mad. If Macie keeps
fighting back, she’ll end up dead. Now. Liam continued, “Seriously…if I get
really...really...mad…I ca—”
“Macie, please.”
Chase said for the final time, desperate.
Ciara could sense
Macie flinching from Chase’s change of attitude. She doesn’t know about
Liam’s anger issues yet…
“F-Fine…” Macie
pouted, and started to walk toward the door. Ciara noticed that Macie was still
wearing her Majestic outfit, because of the cloud-shape gown making skimming
sounds on the wood. “Just don’t get into too much trouble, Chase.”
The door closed, and
after a few minutes of silence, Liam spoke. “What’s with you?” Liam gritted his
teeth, “This is the first time I received a punch from you—and not just any
normal punch, but a punch that nearly broke my jaw.” Liam’s tone grew serious.
Ciara’s heart pounded louder in her chest. What’s this heavy tension I’m
feeling? Ciara thought. It feels like the Crude Brothers are really
angry at each other. Ciara continued. I need to do something before it
gets worse.
Ciara leap out from
the bed, and slowly started to go in between them. “Chase. Liam. Please don’t
fight.”
But Chase wasn’t
listening to her, “I don’t want you trying to take over Ciara, as if she was
your doll.” he said to Liam. What? Ciara thought. ”What you did last
night—the separation of rooms, the double beds. It’s all to get Ciara, right?”
Chase continued. “Did you tell her about the Cure?”
Ciara heard an
involuntary twitch coming from Liam. Oh, no. Liam is shaking from too much
anger.
“I would never tell
her that in a million years!” Liam barked, “Never bring that topic up while
Ciara is here, you hear me!?”
Cure?
What are they talking about? Ciara thought.
“I know…” Chase said
angrily, “But don’t tell me it’s just a misunderstanding. You're just trying to
take her away, so you can be cured. So you can be normal again. And I won't let
you!”
Liam took one step
forward, and Ciara could hear his fists clenching very tightly, as if his veins
were popping out. I never seen Liam like this. Ciara thought. What
are you doing, Ciara! her conscience screamed. You need to get out there
and stop them.
“Liam. Chase.” Ciara
said sharply, throwing her arms on her sides. She knew she was in between the
two figures, and she wouldn’t let them kill each other, without hurting her
first, “Stop this fight.”
“Ciara, you stay
away from this!” Liam clenched his teeth.
“No, I won’t!” Ciara
shouted, “I don’t know what you two are talking about, but I can’t bring you
two to kill each other!"
“Kill each other?”
Chase chuckled, “This is our brotherly fight. Please don’t get yourself
involved with this, Ciara.”
“So
you finally showed your true colors, Chase,” Liam said gloomily, ‘The reason
why you gave me that punch is because you loved Ciara, right?”
Ciara and Chase
froze. So Liam did know…Ciara thought.
“Y-y-you’re wrong!”
Chase stuttered, “You were trying to hurt Ciara—”
“Don’t hide it from
me!” Liam barked, “As your older brother, I know every signs of weakness and
strengths that you have. When you’re in love, you stutter into your words. When
you did something embarrassing in your life, you race down the hallway,
panicking and blushing furiously. When you’re mad and confused, you tried to
bring something up that is supposed to be our secret.” Liam continued, “And
that is what you’re feeling right now. You’re in love with Ciara!”
It seemed Liam’s
words hit Chase on the spot. Ciara couldn’t believe how observant Liam was. But
why did Liam pretended he didn’t know about Chase’s kiss? Ciara thought. Maybe
he knew…but Liam was just ignoring it…
When Chase didn’t
protest for another past minutes, Liam said, “I can’t believe you!” he yelled,
and suddenly there was a tremendous smash on the wall just beside them.
It nearly threw them off balance from the impact. Ciara’s eyes widened. Liam
just punched the wall…Ciara observed. Hearing from that impact, there’s
no mistaking he created a massive crater on it…Ciara gulped. I never
seen him like this. Impossible. Ciara thought. It must be his super
inhuman strength that did that enormous damage.
Liam continued, “All
these years, I finally find someone who can understand me. And now…you’re just
going to take Ciara away from me!”
“I love Ciara!”
Chase confessed, “But it’s up to her to decide which one she loves."
She could feel the
Crude Brother’s angry eyes on her. Ciara felt a heavy feeling inside her
stomach. I can’t decide if they keep staring at me like that…Ciara
thought.
“So who’s going to
be, Ciara?” Liam snapped.
Ciara tightened her
fists around her side, “I’m not choosing anyone!” Ciara continued, “You two are
my closest friends, a family that I haven’t had in years. Choosing you two
would be pointless.” Ciara continued, “I don’t feel anything for you two…so
please stop this fight.”
Liar. Her conscience blurted. You like
them, right?
And because of what
she said, it only made the situation far worse than she had imagined. Two
booming sounds sped across her, and it sounded like their fists pummeled with
fury. Crack, smack, thud. Ciara took one step backward as two hazy figures
swiftly advanced in front of her. They’re fighting. Ciara closed her
eyes. And it doesn’t look too good.
Liam and Chase’s raging
cries bellowed the room. Come on, Ciara.
Her conscience said. Think. But how?
She couldn’t stop them because she was blind, so she had to use another plan to
prevent them from killing each other.
“I saved you when
you were dying!” Liam shouted as Ciara could hear a blow of his fist striking
Chase. Smack, thud, crash, thump, bam. Liam roared, “I helped you when
you were starting out with your new leg!”
Ciara skimmed her
hands on the walls to support herself. How should I stop them? Think Ciara,
Think. Ciara thought.
Something hit her
from behind, and Ciara fell backward, crashing on the soft mattress. The
bed. She used her elbows to prop herself up—when she felt something a firm
object underneath the pillow. What’s this? Ciara clasped the object. Long…slim…hard
made out of bamboo…Ciara thought. The fishing rod.
That was the answer.
Ciara hauled herself up, and flung the string forward. She heard the string
extending into an arc, until a dead weight settled on her grip. Liam and Chase cried
in pain. I got them. Ciara sighed in relief. I finally got them to
stop fighting.
“What the hell is
this!?” Liam shouted.
“Let us go, Ciara!”
Chase yelled.
“No.” Ciara snapped
and secured the fishing rod to the bed post. “If you keep moving, you’ll only
hurt yourself. Every time you struggle, the string will bite and mark your
skin. There’s no point escaping my fishing rod”
Ciara tramped to the
left side of the room, where the door was.
“Where are you
going?” Liam asked.
“I’m leaving you two
here.” Ciara said, annoyed.
“But…” Chase began,
but Ciara was already at the door.
“I’m sorry. But this
is for your own good,” Ciara whispered, “I’ll be back when you two had already
worked it out."
When Ciara closed
the door, Macie was the first one to greet her, with a hand gesture that looked
like a thumbs up. Ciara had almost forgotten about her friend, but why was
Macie giving her a thumbs up?
“I know you can do
it,” Macie praised. “Come on, while we’re at it, let’s have some tea at our
room.”
“Tea would be good,”
Ciara smiled.
z
By the time they
opened the door to check the Crude Brother’s condition, Macie uttered a yelp. “They’re
gone!”
Panic stirred as Ciara
entered the room. Have the Rein guards found out about our
location? Ciara pondered. But knowing the Crude Brothers, they’ll
do anything to fight them, especially Liam. If there had been a tumult, we
should have already heard the noises at the other side of the room.
Ciara cautiously
strolled the room and slid her hands across the walls. No trace of
scratches, or marks. Ciara analyzed. The texture of the walls is still
smooth.
“Macie,” Ciara asked
sternly, “Do you see anything unusual?”
“Nothing,” Macie
said, and Ciara saw her outline moving to open the drawers.
The light in her
vision was fading, so she knew that it was already afternoon. How long had they
been gone?. I should have never left them here …
Ciara continued to
survey the room. If someone was already here before, everyone should be
disordered…. so if an enemy barges inside the room, the door should be
broken, right?
“Woah! Who in the
world would do something like this!?” Macie exclaimed, flabbergasted. Ciara glanced
up. Despite her bleary vision, she could see a glimpse of a sketchy hole on the
wall. Ciara touched the crater. It’s not too deep, so escaping this hole
would be impossible—
Then she tripped, landing
face-first on the soft pillow skewed on the bed.
“Ciara!” Macie cried,
‘What happened to you? You alright?”
As Macie helped
Ciara to her feet, Ciara noticed a 2-inch cut protruding from her right knee.
How she did have gotten this injury? Abruptly, something flared across her
vision. The bait casting fishing rod.
“Here it is,” Macie
said, giving her the fishing rod. “I'm sorry, Ciara. But it looks like the
string has been cut down.”
Ciara warily traced
her fingers on the string. Someone cut it. Ciara molded the fishing rod
into a ball and shove it inside her pocket. The
room was in good shape. The wall had one hole. And the string had been cut. Ciara
guessed. The Crude Brothers must planned the escape for themselves
“We
need to find them,” Ciara said urgently, leaping out from the bed, “They must
be somewhere in the Epicenter streets. And since the Rein Guards already knew
the Vixens entered the city, those brothers could be in big trouble right now.”
“I know,” Macie
said, and Ciara felt something cold on top of her palm. A Swirl. “Here,
drink this Majestic Costume Swirl, and get out of this place as quickly
as we can.”
z
They successfully
left the Majestic hotel and went on to search for the Crude Brothers. Since
Ciara had been wearing sunglasses to disguise her eyes, she had to rely on
Macie’s guidance all the time.
“Where should we
look first?” Macie asked Ciara. It was awfully quiet and cold outside. The
streets of the Epicenter were as peaceful as ever.
“I don’t know…”
Ciara muttered. The Epicenter was a big place, and finding them will be like
searching a needle in a haystack. Think, Ciara. Think. Ciara tried to recall the conversation she had
with Liam last night.
Virgo
gave me a deal. To live in the Epicenter, or to rot in Cager Territory forever.
Ciara shook her
head. The hotel is near the Arch bridge, so if the Crude Brothers escaped a
while ago, they shouldn’t be too far from here. Ciara carefully tipped down
her sunglasses.
The road was blurry
and vast, with white plain houses on the side. So this is the peaceful road
of the Majestic.
“Should we head right,
or left?” Macie asked. Then Ciara heard something—like a buzzing sound, getting
louder and louder from a far distance. What is that sound? Ciara
thought. It sounds like footsteps…the chattering voices of the Majestics
and…
"Ciara!” Macie
yelled, and then, Ciara was pulled to the side as the sounds began to grew
louder and thunderous. It’s not just a buzzing sound. Ciara thought as
the noise started to hurt her ears. There were many voices echoing in her head.
This is just like the one at Sputter Palace. A crowd—a crowd of Majestics.
“Did you hear?
There’s a criminal today at the Circular!” One Majestic shouted as the noise
began to roar, like a stampede.
“Yeah. I can’t wait
to see him being whipped bloody.”
“Or maybe they’ll do
something different today. Like cutting his fingers, tongue or—"
Ciara didn’t listen
further. After the noise died down, which meant the crowd was far away from
their location, Ciara and Macie came out from their hiding place. So Macie
and I hid in an alleyway. Ciara thought, because the smell of garbage is
still stuck on my nose.
“What
was that?” Ciara’s heart throbbed. She didn’t forget what the Majestics said.
Whipped Bloody. Cut fingers…and tongue. She shivered.
“A stampede of
Majestics,” Macie said in a serious tone, “Should we follow them?”
Ciara nodded. Criminal
at the Circular? What is the Circular? Ciara had a bad feeling about the
criminal they were talking about. So they followed the Majestics, and it didn’t
took them long to discover what the Circular was. The noise grew thunderous
across her eardrums, and Ciara placed her hands on her ears to muffled the
noise.
“My god,” Macie
gasped, “So this is the Circular they are talking about.”
“What do you see?”
Ciara said.
“Hundreds—no
thousands of Majestics gathered up in a circular park,” Macie explained, “And
it seems like they’re cheering for something.” Ciara noticed Macie jumping on
her side, “I can’t see anything! There’s too many of them."
We must
be located at the rear end. Ciara thought. Since there’s no one running, or bumping
on us, I guess we’re far away from the Majestic crowd. Ciara observed. Judging
from the noise, there must be hundred thousand Majestics in here. But why?
What’s the commotion all about? Ciara continued. Is this because of just
one criminal?
“There! I see a
staircase right beside us,” Macie said, “If we go on top of that staircase,
we’ll be able to see what’s really going on.”
Ciara nodded, “Good
idea.”
While the Majestics
were too busy to notice them, Macie took Ciara’s hand, and climbed the
staircase Macie had spotted. After they stopped at the highest ground, Ciara
took her sunglasses off, since there wasn’t anyone watching them, and narrowed
her surroundings. Everything was blurry—too blurry, but down below, she could
see millions of dots forming into circle. That must be the Majestics. At
the center of the crowd was a round ring, and in it, were three people standing
inside.
“What is that?”
Ciara asked Macie.
“The Circular,”
Macie said, “I can see two dark-haired boys, and a girl wearing an armor—Wait,
it looks like that girl is the leader of the Rein Army.”
Dark-haired
boys…Ciara
thought. She couldn’t mean…
“What’s your problem
anyway!?” Liam’s voice was distant, but loud enough for the two girls to hear
what they were talking about. "Why did you bring us here? Just because you
bumped into me doesn’t mean I’m a criminal, you know!”
I knew
it…Ciara
thought.
“Liam, calm down,”
Chase said.
“Why should I!?”
Liam shouted, “Walking around the streets naked is not a crime, you know!”
“Geez,” Macie
sighed, “I can’t believe they got into this big mess.”
“We need to do
something…” Ciara said, “But how?”
“The reason why I
brought you here is because you are not a Majestic,” the girl wearing an armor
said, her voice deep and loud, “Bumping is not the reason why I arrested you,
Outsider," the girl continued, "I told you, you can't escape these
eyes of mine."
Ciara shivered. The
girl knows Liam is an outsider…Ciara thought. This is bad….really bad.
“Tsk,” Liam said,
“What are you talking about? I’m a Majestic residing near the Bay Leaf Hotel
near the Arch Bridge!” Liam continued,
"How dare you call me an outsider!"
“Even if Liam talks
and acts like a Majestic, that girl knows something,” Macie said beside Ciara,
“It’s like she can see through our disguise—well, not Liam, because he’s
awfully naked.”
The girl chuckled,
“If you really are a Majestic, you shouldn’t be talking back to me, especially
not with these many people watching over you.”
Liam and
Chase doesn't know that many people are watching them outside…Ciara noticed. Even from a
greater distance, their voices are still loud and clear…Ciara continued. Could
it be...they’re trapped inside a glass wall with a microphone illuminating
their voice outside? Ciara guessed. If
so, then how are we supposed to save them?
“You set us up!”
Liam yelled.
“Not really,” the
girl said, “What I’m worried right now is your other companions, Vixens,"
the girl continued, "You are not alone, boy."
Ciara flinched. She
even knows we’re here…How....why? Ciara thought. We’re at the farthest
corner of the Majestic crow—
The ground started
to wobble tremendously. Macie and Ciara held tight on the metal railings, but
they were already losing their balance, as if the ground was tipping them up. An
Earthquake? Ciara observed. No, not an earthquake…if it was, then we
should be falling backward, not falling forward.
Ciara’s heart
drummed louder. From what she observed, the ground wasn’t shaking. Instead, it
felt like the ground was dragging them up, like someone was controlling it.
Ciara closed her eyes and tripped backward, when suddenly—the ground began to
level up, causing her to steady on her feet. Someone is definitely
controlling it. But who? Ciara thought. And now the ground was moving
downward—to where the Circular was.
Once they were
brought down by the ground, Ciara felt an unusual gravity as they crashed
inside the Circular. It felt like an invisible magnetic force field was
surrounding them inside. Ciara painfully got up, her cracked sunglasses
tipping the edge of her nose.
“Ah, so these are
your fellow comrades,” the girl with the deep voice said. It’s so quiet in
here, like the room was soundproof. Ciara thought. So this is the inside
of the Circular.
“You idiots!” Liam shouted
his voice sharp and clear, “What are you doing here! You need to get away as
you ca—”
Smack!
To her right, Ciara
heard Liam’s body crashing on the ground, while a gun clicked in the air. The
girl must have hit Liam with the butt of the gun. Ciara thought. Incredible.
To be able to hit Liam that unconscious, one must have super speed. I need to
be careful around this girl.
“Liam!” Chase
shouted, then another smack and a thump on the ground. Ciara
could still hear the Crude Brothers breathing, and some chains dangling on the
ground. They’re just unconscious...Ciara thought. That's why they
can’t get out, because their hands are tied into chains.
“Worthless little
boys,” the girl said, spinning the gun expertly in her hands, “That Liam is too
loud. Too much of a blabbermouth, wouldn’t you agree?”
“Who are you?” Macie
shouted. Ciara couldn't see what was going on, because of her sunglasses. “What
did our friends do to you!”
Slap.
Another body crashed
on the ground, inches to where Ciara was standing. She clenched her fists
tightly on the side. Even Macie…Ciara thought. But why didn’t the
girl killed them? Why did she spared us…?
“Don’t look so
miserable, girly,” the girl said, “I’m not going to treat you better, even if
your comrades were wiped out.”
“What are you?”
Ciara asked, "You're not completely human, right?"
The girl snorted,
“What am I? You’ve got guts to ask that,” the girl continued, “but first—”the
girl appeared behind Ciara, “I’ll play with you first.”
Thanks to Ciara’s
quick reflexes, Ciara was able to miss the girl’s attack earlier—when she bent
down, feeling the girl's strong punch swinging above her. This girl must
have something…a power. Ciara thought. When the girl’s fist crashed on the
ground, Ciara knew what she must do next. With the girl distracted, Ciara
lifted her foot, and swung it—but a hand grabbed her leg, tossing her off the
ground.
A jolt of pain
exploded Ciara’s body. There’s no mistaking it. The girl is just like Liam…Ciara
thought. When she swung her fist above my head, I could already feel a light
wind pressure on her hands. Ciara observed. Fast attacks can cause light
wind pressure. Strong attacks can cause heavy wind pressure.
“That was brilliant.
But unfortunately, you’re too slow to attack me,” the girl sniggered,” And
since we’re inside the Circular, I’m going to give the audience a little
excitement,” Ciara heard quick light movements shifting from her sides.
“Starting with breaking that sunglasses and exposing your real face!”
Move
Ciara!
Everything went too
fast. By the time Ciara rolled to the side, the girl’s fist was already on her
face, smashing her sunglasses into pieces. The impact threw Ciara off the
sides, rolling across the ground.
“Ugh,” Ciara gritted
her teeth. That girl is too fast…Ciara thought. Even my instincts are
useless against her.
Suddenly, a hand was
gripped tightly on her face, pulling her head upward. Ciara tried to claw the
girl’s hands, but her grip was like steel. Ciara screamed.
“Now let’s see what
you’ve been hiding behind those eyes,” the girl chuckled, and then the pressure
on her grip grew stronger. Ciara shrieked and thrashed, feeling her skull going
to be crushed by her hand.
Her grip is too…strong…Ciara thought.
Tears slipped down
her eyes. She had no choice. She couldn’t take it anymore.
“Let go of me!”
Ciara’s eyes snapped open as she gave the girl a loud ear-piercing scream.
And it did well.
The hands were gone
from her face, and then Ciara was on the ground, writhing in pain. Ciara
massaged her temples.
“Y-you…” the girl
shuddered.
Ciara braced for the
word, "Blind Candidate", but unfortunately, it never happened.
Instead, it went the opposite, as if the name brought her back to her senses.
“Ciara…” the girl blurted,
“It can’t be…”
Ciara looked up, and
for the first time, she finally saw what her enemy looked like. The girl wore
bright white from top to bottom. The traces of her features were still blurry,
but she could hear the girl slightly trembling, her teeth chattering from…fear?
Why is
she surprised to see me? Ciara
thought.
White was an odd
color for an armor. It was supposed to be gray that looked like the color of
metal, but white was silly.
“Why are you staring
at me like that,” Ciara gritted her teeth, tightly clenching her fists on the
sides, “Is this your first time seeing a blind perso—”
“Ciara.” the girl’s
dark voice transformed to something smooth—something familiar, as if that voice
brought back important memories to her. “It’s me. Leverie Plop.”
